This is clearly a Victory for Free Speech and Empowerment of the Individual against Government Oppression, but what does this mean for Bitcoin? What does this mean for Freedom of Speech in China, and Worldwide? Will Beijing take steps to remove and/or block prohibited information being distributed inside of the Great Firewall via the Bitcoin Blockchain hosted on nodes operated by Chinese Bitcoin Miners?

We know you heard this one before, but China wants to ban bitcoin…again. Only this time the government plans to use one of its most far reaching tools, the Great Firewall of China, to completely prevent anyone in the country from reaching foreign exchange sites.

So one of the main argument of Core against larger max-blocksize is China's Great Firewall. But if that's really a problem, it mean that China can just close the GF a bit more an essentially kill Bitcoin as we know it. And that's just silly.

Core weight too much the adversarial conditions and underestimates the incentives to make Bitcoin works right. Sadly it's a confirmed trend (see RBF). The community need to steer clear of it.

Wargame scenario: If the Great Firewall of China was used to attack Bitcoin or Bitcoin Cash, what would the effects be?

A significant amount of hash power resides in China (due to the manufacturing of ASICs there, relaxed building and fire codes helpful for mining warehouses, and cheap electricity).
If the GFW was used to attempt to block bitcoin, what would we see?
Block propagation might be halted or at least obstructed.
Would we see a fork where there are two chains that occasionally overwrite each over as communications channels open up and close again?
Wouldn't Bitcoin would see both chains (in China and out) slow down until the next difficulty recalculation, but during periods where blocks leak out, hash power would double?
Some scenarios have been discussed previously, but many of those discussions were during ages where everyone ran a mining node, or before ASIC's, before hashpower migrated to specific geographic locations because of lower operating costs, before Bitcoin split with aggressive actors, and before the possibility of multiple governments wielding immense powers in an attempt to thwart Bitcoin (and by extension, Bitcoin Cash)
It's not a likely scenario, most of the "omfg, China is banning Bitcoin?!?!?!" talk is just FUD, but it always a good idea to consider possible threat models.
What do you think are the risks and plausible scenarios for different kinds of attacks or roadblocks that might be put in place?

Everyone says the "Great Firewall of China" is slowing Bitcoin. Why isn't there a minimum ping for running a Bitcoin node or miner? Why isn't some form of self-enforcing QoS already a part of Bitcoin?

North Korea always says it's because of the "Great Firewall of China" that's keeping blocksize small. Why isn't there some form of "you must be this tall (ping) to ride this ride" built into the protocol?
