See Reasons Why Bitcoin/Cryptocurrency Need Local Currency

Bitcoin - The Currency of the Internet

A community dedicated to Bitcoin, the currency of the Internet. Bitcoin is a distributed, worldwide, decentralized digital money. Bitcoins are issued and managed without any central authority whatsoever: there is no government, company, or bank in charge of Bitcoin. You might be interested in Bitcoin if you like cryptography, distributed peer-to-peer systems, or economics. A large percentage of Bitcoin enthusiasts are libertarians, though people of all political philosophies are welcome.

I'm a local bitcoins seller and I just had a payment reversed on my bank account

Just a warning to others out there it is possible to reverse bank transfers to UK banks so be careful when dealing with buyers with no rep.
edit: I'm going to fight this, I can produce receipts so hopefully I can convince the bank that this guys is scamming me.

Local bitcoins seller

Hey all I'm thinking of becoming a bitcoin seller on local bitcoins full time. I'm in the process of getting a business tax identification number and will be opening up a couple business accounts. I'm going to purchase the bitcoins through cash in the mail and will sell them on LBC. I'm planning on keeping track of all transactions on bitcoin.tax (if you know a better program let me know). As long as I make sure to avoid knowing what the buyer is doing like in the Florida case 1. Am I still breaking the law? 2. Will the bank close my business account? 3. Any other suggestions thanks

Sketchy looking local Bitcoin seller. Legit?

I wanted to try buying Bitcoin with cash from an atm, but in all the searches I made there’s only one in my state (SC) and it’s hours away.
Yesterday I was driving and this little independent phone/computer place (pretty sure a place where drug dealers buy burners) has a big add sign that says “WE SELL BITCOIN.”
Now I’m curious. What kind of stuff would I want to ask/look for to make sure it’s legit?

I'm a Birmingham local bitcoin seller

I'm one of the only 2 Bitcoin Sellers in Birmingham on localbitcoins.com. I live in 5 points South between the Vulcan and UAB.
If you have cash and you want Bitcoins quick and cheap, let me know. I charge 4% over last Mt. Gox trade. For comparison, with localbitcoins the default is 6% (5%+ site commision). I will charge a lower rate for transactions over $1000. You can bring your phone or laptop and meet on my porch.
Oh, and you must like my dog or no deal :-)

Did I buy bitcoin the right way?

Bought from a seller on local bitcoins. Seller wanted a screenshot of my PayPal which included the last four digits of my phone numbers and then wanted a photo of my ID. When I sent the photo of my ID, I blocked out: •my signature •my id number •my birthdate •most of my address, leaving only state, city and zipcode.
The seller knows my first and last name, email address, last four digits of my phone number, what state/city I live in, and has my ID photo.
Did I get taken advantage of? Surely this little amount of information can’t be sold can it?

Just been hit with a tirade of questions from Bitstamp.

Im a local bitcoins seller, just got this ott list of questions from bitstamp. Is this normal? They are asking where funds I use for trading etc come from.
BTW Im not in the US, so these question seem unusual as they go above and beyond what any bank in Europe would ask you. The document even seems soley directed at US customers (multiple mentions of USD despite me never using them).
Any help would be appreciated.

There is a 30 day comment period for the current Bitlicense proposal. Unless there are substantial changes, New York will be a Bitcoin dead zone

The 30 day comment period starts next week. Bitlicense, as proposed will force most companies that store customer BTC deposits to block New York IP addresses. There is very little chance that Lawsky will make any further changes to it, so what will this mean for Bitcoin around the world?
EDIT, as a reminder:
This is how the Bitlicense will affect Bitcoin businesses, taken from here:
http://www.reddit.com/Bitcoin/comments/2aycxs/hi_this_is_ben_lawsky_at_nydfs_here_are_the/cizyqyz
(I've added modifications in light of changes in the new proposal and information that I found was missing in the original write-up)
Entities are considered dealing in virtual currencies if:
.. to any resident in New York. Web services, even those incorporated overseas, must either comply or block access for NY users. (200.2n)
Entities 'dealing in virtual currency' must:
Added:
The (only?) good news: Merchants do not need a BitLicense to accept Bitcoin for a good or service. (200.3c2).

Buying BTC seems to be scammish

Okay so I want to buy bitcoin - immediately I'm choosing coinbase or Local bitcoins.
So, currently the price on coinbase for BTC is 15,300
Local bitcoins seller for cash deposit is 17,385.00
I'm trying to buy $500 worth.
Coinbase says the fee would be 15.35, I choose local bitcoins because sellers are usually about 2k over what the actual price of bitcoin is like they are currently, so nothing out of the ordinary here for me that I can see.
All said and done - and the final amount of bitcoin I receive after doing a $500 deposit is 431.xx - so right away I lost 70ish dollars from the inflated price I bought it at.
After this, I'm starting to think I should of just bought it off coinbase? The stigma with LBC is that they are the cheapest option. Am I missing something here? I think after all said and done coinbase would of been cheaper? Thanks for any insight guys.
